  3.     Contrary to your article on the causes of juvenile violence
  4. (BEHAVIOR, June 12), I did not use the term "misshapen
  5. personalities" to describe the effect on young people of a lack
  6. of parenting. I did say more and more children are being raised
  7. by troubled, often violent parents, and this experience, when
  8. combined with certain vulnerabilities of impaired impulse
  9. control, such as psychiatric, cognitive and neurological
  10. problems, seems to create extraordinarily aggressive juveniles.
  11. Unfortunately, this constellation of intrinsic and environmental
  12. factors is increasingly common in our society today.
